Second paddle out scheduled for surfer
Friends of a fallen Newport Beach surfer have scheduled a paddle out in his honor for Feb. 6.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. friends of Gregory Gladstone, 38, will paddle out on the south side of the Newport Pier in his honor.
Those who want to participate should meet at Paddle Power, 1500 W. Balboa Blvd., before the event.
Gladstone’s body was found floating unresponsive off the Newport coast Jan. 23, after surfers found his surfboard without him.
An autopsy has been completed and coroners are awaiting a toxicology report to determine the cause of death.
The paddle out is one of two scheduled in his honor.
Sunday, friends and family will paddle out for Gladstone in Ventura County’s Marine Park starting at 4 p.m.
A celebration of Gladstone’s life will take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the American Legion Post No. 291, at 215 E. 15th St. in Newport Beach.
