LAGUNA HILLS — Sophomore goalkeeper Connor Gaal had five saves to preserve the shutout for the Sea Kings in their Pacific Coast League opener Friday.

CdM (11-0-1) had five shots on goal. The Sea Kings played without senior standout Reed Williams (hamstring), who has 19 goals this season, as well as starters Mason Cole (back) and Elliott Waniek (knee).

Williams is questionable to return next week, CdM Coach George Larsen said. Cole and Waniek hope to return before the season ends.

The Sea Kings are ranked No. 5 in the nation, according to the National Soccer Coaches Assn. of America/adidas rankings and No. 5 in the U.S. by ESPN RISE.

“Everyone knew [the Hawks] would be pretty good this year,” Larsen said. “They have a lot of seniors. Getting a tie was a well-deserved result.

“They did what they could at their place. It’ll be our job to beat them at home. Hopefully we’ll be healthy at that point. [The Sea Kings] were disappointed after the game at first, but after we talked we were OK. The lack of satisfaction might be good for us. It could give us an edge going into the rest of the league games.”

Corona del Mar will play host to Irvine Wednesday at 3:15 p.m.
