Pet Of The Week
A pregnant cat that was rescued from an Orange County correctional facility is living behind bars again at a local veterinary hospital.
The momma cat has since given birth to six beautiful kittens.
A foster family for the family is needed, as well as a family to house three 4-month-old orphan kittens that still remain on the prison grounds. Food and veterinary medical care will be provided by the Community Animal Network. Call (949) 759-3646 to help.
The issue of cats breeding on our local prison grounds is often ignored until the population begins to rise. We have learned of several correctional facilities whose cat populations had reached above 200, and the leaders ordered the animals starved to death.
The facility we are working with is eager to work with Community Animal Network to get the animals off the grounds before the population continues to rise.
The three kittens remaining were born to a cat that an inmate raised from a kitten at the institution. All are being cared for by the inmates until help can be obtained and the pregnant cat was moved to the safety of a boarding kennel before the kittens were born.
