SANTA ANA — The Sea Kings led the No. 2-ranked team in the CIF Southern Section Division I preseason poll, 2-0, at halftime in the Mater Dei Tournament pool-play contest Friday at Mater Dei High.

Sydney Raguse’s free kick led to an own-goal that put the Sea Kings (4-2-2), ranked No. 5 in CIF Division II, on top early.

Freshman Emily Krebs then stole the ball from a defender and fired a 20-yard shot into the upper corner of the net in the 30th minute to double the advantage.

CdM was hampered in the second half by injuries that sidelined senior forward Alexandra Reinach (shoulder) and freshman midfielder Maddie O’Connor (concussion) for the game.

Both received treatment at Hoag Hospital, but both could return later this month, Coach Bryan Middelton said.

Savannah Vaughn had two saves in the opening half and Sarah Cox made three in the final 40 minutes.
