Two face car burglary charges

A North Hollywood man is scheduled to be arraigned Monday on charges that he and at least one other man burglarized more than a dozen cars in Newport Beach earlier this week.

Jacob Christopher Ross, 18, is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail in Orange County Jail after police arrested him in the Cameo Highlands neighborhood about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said he and Nathan Thomas Crewdson, 23, of North Hollywood, are responsible for 13 overnight car burglaries in the Cameo Highlands area in Corona del Mar Monday night and Tuesday morning.

Authorities used the AlertOC system, which calls specific neighborhoods with an automated message.

Corona del Mar residents were advised to call police if they noticed suspicious people in their neighborhoods about the time of the burglaries.

Police said cars were burglarized in the following areas: the 4500, 4600 and 4800 block of Cortland, the 4700 block of Dorchester, the 4700 and 4800 block of Surrey, the 3900 block of Inlet, the 600 block of Rockford, the 200 block of Orchid, and the 200 and 300 block of Poppy.

Ross and Crewdson were arrested separately but in the same area, said Lt. Jeff Lu. They were booked on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary.

Crewdson posted the $20,000 the same day and was released, so prosecutors have more time to work up their case before filing charges. Ross is still in custody and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.

Police are investigating if more people were involved in the burglaries, Lu said.
