Pet Of the Week
Tootsie and Apache
Animal abandonment stories are nothing new to an animal rescue person.
Some people actually believe that animals may have a better chance of living on the street than risking death inside an animal shelter.
An abandoned animal can become prey to another animal such as a coyote, hawk or the great horn owl. Feral cats teach their young to hunt, but house cats see food only in a bowl and are at risk of starvation if not fed by humans.
Most of us cannot imagine abandoning an animal, but five friendly kittens were reported to Community Animal Network, which were seen in an industrial area.
By the time help reached the kittens, only three were found.
Apache (male, gray solid and white) and Tootsie (female, long hair diluted torti calico) were rescued along with their brother Tito, who was adopted last weekend.
The number of animals needing help is not in proportion to the foster families signed up, or the donations received.
Why not save a life this Christmas and volunteer to become a foster family to animals in need?
Last week’s dogs, Dulce the Shih Tzu and Vida the Malti-poo, are still available. Call (949) 759-3646, or meet them from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Other animals will be seen Sunday.
If you would like to donate to help with veterinary costs for local animals, memo your check nonprofit tax ID 33-0971560, and mail it to Community Animal Network, P.O. Box 8662 Newport Beach, CA, 92658.
