NEWPORT BEACH — Zach Lucas and Jack Yeager scored three goals each to lead the Newport Harbor High boys’ water polo team to a 16-3 win over Huntington Beach in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs Wednesday.

Newport Harbor (24-4), the No. 2 seed, advances to face Harvard-Westlake in Friday’s quarterfinals. The host team will be decided by a coin flip.

Farrel South (five steals), Jordan McLaren, Matt Russell and Chris Craib had two goals apiece for the Sailors.

Chris Whitelegge had six saves and Koby Yokota added three for the Tars.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Montebello 18, Estancia 4

COMMERCE — Junior Charlie Umansky had three goals and Preston Schow had one in the visiting Eagles’ first-round CIF Southern Section Division III playoff game Wednesday at the Aquatorium.

Conner Graham had nine saves for the Eagles (18-9) against the defending division champions.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Sage Hill School will play at Western Christian of Covina after the Lancers won the coin toss to play host to the CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA second-round match.

The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
