Valentine, Virginia Page
Virginia Page Valentine passed away on October 22nd, 2009 in Newport Beach, Calif., of complications due to Alzheimer’s disease.
Affectionately known as Ginny, she leaves a great many friends and family, all touched by her particular and sensational charm. A great beauty, Ginny’s vivacity lit every room she entered; her magnetic style cast a wide net, no one who ever met her would forget her. She was incomparable.
Born in Los Angeles on April 8th, 1918, Ginny was raised and schooled in Pasadena, California. An early marriage produced two beloved sons, Charles Black, who survives her and Richard Black who pre-deceased her in 1996.
In 1954, Ginny married Henry Winthrop Valentine. Together they created a life of travel, wonderful friends and family, a lifestyle that was unique and elegant, enjoyed by all who knew them. Henry passed away in 1971, several years after they had moved permanently from Pasadena to Newport Beach.
Ginny was generous with her time and efforts. She supported many institutions and philanthropies including Hoag Hospital’s Circle 1000, a cancer research organization and Angels of the Arts, a group that supports Segerstrom Hall and the Performing Arts Center. Ginny particularly loved Palm Desert and she and Henry were active and cherished members of El Dorado Marrakesh, the California Club and the Newport Harbor Yacht Club.
Ginny fought a valiant fight against the disease that claimed her. Her son Charles Black of San Francisco, her great-niece Mary V. Buckingham of Newport Beach and dear extended family and friends survive her. Ginny was beloved as well by her caretakers Vicky, Edna and Mary Lou. The family is profoundly grateful for their dedication and care of Ginny. At her request there will be no service and her ashes will be scattered at sea.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that any donations be made in her name to Circle 1000, care of Hoag Hospital, Newport Beach, Calif.
