Cap-knitting class starts today

Knit “heart-warming” caps for people in need and donate them to the Knots-of-Love Organization, which donates caps free of charge to people who are battling cancer or other life-threatening illnesses or injuries. Concepts include: casting on, knitting, decreasing stitches, stitching up a back seam, weaving in ends and problem solving.

Classes will take place from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. today and Nov. 13 and 20 at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St. Cost is $26, which includes all materials and instruction.

‘Beating the holiday blues’ seminar

Lynne Grabyan, a marriage and family therapist intern practicing in Laguna Beach, is offering a free 1 1/2 -hour seminar, “Beating the Holiday Blues,” for those who feel pressured, sad or lost while contemplating the holiday season. There are steps and choices to make which will help conquer the holiday blues. Adults of all ages are welcome.

The class will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St.

Intrepid travelers to visit Bowers

The Intrepid Traveler Group was developed to assist with mastering mass transit for recreation, independence, socialization and to promote environmental benefits of “going green.” The group will be heading to the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. The group will meet at the Laguna Beach Bus Depot on Broadway (next door to Zinc Cafe) at 9:30 a.m. For more information, call (949) 497-2441.

Free hearing screening offered

South Coast Hearing Specialist Dr. Rob Pettis will be performing free hearing screenings from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Susi Q Senior Center, 380 Third St. The hearing screenings will consist of comprehensive pure-tone and speech audiometry. Fall prevention workshop slated

Dr. Gina Kay, from In Home Care Solutions and Carol Fracalosi, Physical Therapist from Magnolia Physical Therapy will present a fall prevention workshop from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 13 at the Susi Q Senior Center. Participants will learn how to take control of your life and prevent falls through medical management and balance and mobility, and take a 30-second test to see if you are at risk for falls. Prevention tips including medication interaction and home modifications will be discussed. Call the Susi Q to register, (949) 497-2441.

Sally’s Fund offers a ride to a free lunch

Sally’s Fund will pick seniors up at their door for a free ride to a free lunch at the Susi Q Center. Call (949) 499-4100 for a reservation.
