IRVINE — Kari Pestolesi had 22 kills and 20 digs for the No. 19-ranked Anteaters, but the Gauchos won the Big West Conference match, 14-25, 25-22, 17-25, 25-22, 19-17, Friday.

Juliane Piggott added 16 kills and Larissa Nordyke had 11 for UCI (16-4, 6-2 in conference).

FULLERTON — The UC Irvine men’s team won the title Friday at Cal State Fullerton.

Brett Schmitt was the top runner for the Anteaters, finishing 11th in 25 minutes, 42 seconds on the 8,000-meter course.

The UCI women finished third. Courtney Wilson was 20th in 19:18 to be the ’Eaters’ top runner on the 5,000-meter course.

LONG BEACH — UC Irvine finished sixth at Virginia Country Club Friday.

UCI senior John Chin shot 69 in the second round and 68 over the final 18 to finish 10th at four-under 206.

Greg Enloe and Brandon Johnson scored two goals each, while goalie Matt Johnson had five saves for No. 7-ranked UCI (13-5).
