Man in critical condition after running into tree
A 62-year-old man is in critical condition after he slammed into a tree while on his motorcycle in Newport Beach.
Police said the man, whom they did not identify pending notification of the family, hit a tree while turning left onto Newport Ridge Drive in Newport Coast about 11:30 a.m. Sunday. He was on a 1994 Honda motorcycle, police said.
He was turning onto southbound Newport Ridge Drive from westbound Crest Ridge, said Lt. Craig Fox.
Police said alcohol does not appear to be a factor, and they are investigating what caused the crash. The man was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo.
