LOCAL WINS SILVER
Courtney Conlogue, who will be a senior at Sage Hill School in the fall, took second place in the open women’s division at the 2009 National Scholastic Surfing Assn. National Championships Saturday at Lower Tressles in San Clemente.
Conlogue scored 14.75 points, finishing behind Lakey Peterson, who had 16.75.
WHITESIDE RANKED HIGH
Cecil Whiteside, who will be a senior linebacker for Newport Harbor High in the fall, is 31st on the top 100 in California football’s Class of 2010 list by Scout.com.
Whiteside, who has verbally committed to play at UC Berkeley, recorded 55 tackles and led the Sailors with six sacks, eight hurries and two blocked kicks.
Whiteside is a two-time Daily Pilot Dream Team Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time first-team All-Sunset League selection.
The Sailors open the season with a scrimmage game at Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks Sept. 4 at 7 p.m.
