Sage Hill sweeps honors

Sage Hill School junior Alex Koeberle earned the Academy League singles MVP award and sophomore Andrew Kurzweil and freshman Alex Manolakas received the doubles MVP honor, making it a first in league history a boys’ tennis program has taken both awards, Sage Hill Coach A.G. Longoria said.

The Lightning (16-8) also made history on the court, advancing to the CIF Southern Section Division IV playoffs for the first time. After reaching the quarterfinals for the seventh straight year, Sage Hill lost in the semis to eventual champion Cerritos in games.

Seniors Tony Astorino and Andrew Yun made first-team All-Academy League for the Lightning, who placed second in league.

Making the second team for Sage Hill were seniors Greg Berchtold and Kevin Wang, and sophomore Sean Batten.
