Five arrested during police DUI checkpoint
Police impounded a dozen vehicles during a Saturday night DUI checkpoint in Costa Mesa, officials said Monday.
About 1,460 vehicles passed through the checkpoint on Harbor Boulevard at Peterson Place, with 496 drivers being questioned. Police investigated 22 people for possibly driving under the influence and arrested five. Thirteen tickets were issued for license-related violations, eight for the driver not having a license, two for having a suspended license and three for not having their license with them.
Two people were also given tickets for possessing marijuana. Four people were ticketed for other vehicle code violations, and a dozen vehicles were impounded.
Police are scheduled to conduct another DUI checkpoint at the end of the month, where they will team up with Mothers Against Drunk Driving. These checkpoints are funded by a state grant from the Office of Traffic Safety.
