Eison No. 2 in UCI annals with high jump clearance
LOS ANGELES — UC Irvine senior Julian Eison won the high jump with a mark of 7 feet, 1/2 -inch in the Cal/Nevada Championships Saturday at UCLA’s Drake Stadium.
That mark ties him for No. 2 in UCI history with Matt Farmer (1990) and Jon Wratten (2007).
Senior Natasha Wardley finished second in the long jump with a mark of 19-5, the third-best mark in Anteater history. Danielle Watson of UCLA won the event at 20-7.
In other men’s finals, Lasalle Mitchell placed fourth in the long jump at 22-3, while Greg Thompson finished ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9 minutes, 39.28 seconds.
Tim Murphy (1:53.03) and Charles Jock (1:53.84) each won their sections of the 800 meters to advance to Sunday’s final as did Napoleon Greene in the 400-meter hurdles (53.09) as he placed second in his section of the preliminaries.
The meet concludes today.
