John Allen Standage, 81, of Annapolis, Maryland, passed away at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD, on Monday, March 16, 2009. John was born in Blue Township, KS on July 6, 1927 and is the son of the late Robert Andrew Standage and Eulah Irene (Blasing) Standage.

Mr. Standage grew up in Loveland, CO and moved to Newport Beach, CA at the age of 15. Upon his graduation from Newport Harbor High School in 1945, he entered the US Navy, where he served in the Pacific until the war ended. Returning to Newport Beach, he met the love of his life, Lois Rairdan Small, whom he married in 1951. He was employed by the Public Works Department of the City of Newport Beach, as an electrician and supervisor, for 43 years. Following his retirement, John lived in Prescott AZ for 9 years and then moved to Annapolis in 2000. He enjoyed being outdoors, working with his hands, spending time with his family and friends, watching baseball, traveling and good wine.

John is survived by his daughter, Susan Standage Eckert of Arnold, MD; two grandchildren, Sarah Thibault and Geoffrey Eckert, three sisters, Carrie Rupp of Medford, OR, Dorothy Bonds of Red Bluff, CA, Mickie Comer of Citrus Heights, CA and one brother, Don Standage of Tuolumne, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois Standage.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis, 333 Dubois Road, Annapolis, MD 21401 on Sunday, April 5, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Habitat for Humanity fund at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis. Arrangements were made by Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Cremation and Funeral Care, P.A., Annapolis, MD.
