OCEAN VIEW LITTLE LEAGUE

Majors Division

Red Sox 9, Cubs 0: Key hits in the Red Sox victory came from Luke Johnston, Connor Hurst, Chris Hoffman, Jack Shearer and Austin Turner.

The Red Sox’ Cameron Kaneko pitched six innings, striking out nine and giving up only two hits to Cubs hitter Corey Hawk.

Minor A Division

Knights 11, River Cats 6: The Knights received olid pitching from Ricky Masters, Trevor Windish and Chase Foreman. Only three walks were allowed by the Knights. Timely hits came from Trevor Windisch (three for three), Jake Legg and Michael Primich (both two for three).

Bats 13, Express 9: Jake Cramer hit the first Minor A home run of the season for the Express, but the Bats’ bats were a bit too much in the exciting game.

Both teams’ pitching was top notch throughout the game. Bats pitchers Devin Lacy, Landen Hill and Brandon Nicholson were consistent. Express pitchers Ryan St. Pierre, Ryo Takada and Noah Driscoll showed great focus and determination.

The high-scoring game was the result of some great hitting. Game standouts for the Bats were Derek Chumacero, Jonathon Mohammed and Brian Baca, all going two for three with runs batted in. Besides Cramer’s blast, Express batters Ryo Takada and Dylan Carter went three for three, while Grant Rockefeller went two for two.

Redwings 14, Express 7: Saturday’s game was close until the fourth inning, when the Redwings opened up their lead by scoring five runs on their way to their third victory of the season.

Leading the hitting for the Express was Cameron Prohaska, who went two for three with two doubles. Ryo Takada also had a towering home run in the fifth inning.

Muckdogs 8, Sidewinders 4: The Muckdogs dug themselves out of a big hole in the late innings for a thrilling come-from-behind win to improve to 2-0.

The Muckdog bats were held to one hit after four innings. Entering the top of the fifth inning down, 4-1, the ‘Dawgs erupted for four runs to take the lead for good.

Nigel Flum, Jose Gallo, Jacob Haffner and Kaylen Demay all had two hits apiece to pace the comeback.

Ben McConnell, Brad Monroe, Jack Donohoe and Josef Arevalo all had a hit.

Spencer Hagaman, McConnell and Demay all pitched well in keeping the Muckdogs within striking distance.

Kaylen Demay earned the game ball with two scoreless innings pitched and two hits, to go with three RBIs.

Steven Kotkosky and Jack MacDowell pitched extremely well for the Sidewinders.

Minor B Division

Defenders 11, Hooks 9: For the Defenders, Cade Smith went two for two with an RBI and scored two runs, while Cooper Malerstein went two for two with five RBIs. Mathew Karnowski was hit by a pitch and stole second and third, and Jacob Sims drew a walk and scored the eventual winning run.

Nick Uerling made a game-saving play in right field to hold the runners from scoring the potential tying runs. Ryan Adams secured the win with runners on second and third, striking out the final two Hook sluggers.

Nathan Adams and Jacob Ferris also had clutch performances for the Defenders.

Defenders 8, Lookouts 7: Cade Smith went two for three, with the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the sixth. Cooper Malerstein of the Defenders went two for three with a bases-clearing triple.

Jake Sims drew the walk in the bottom of the sixth and stole second and third to set up the RBI single by Smith. Smith also got the win, striking out the final two Lookout sluggers with a man on third. Tristan Windle, Nathan Adams, Ian Cook and Jacob Ferris all had clutch hits for the Defenders.

Hooks 7, Lookouts 5: The Hooks chalked up their second win of the season, thanks to two hits by Drew Guerrero and an outstanding catching performance by Chandler Forth.

The Lookouts started a rally but were stopped by Spencer Stanbridge’s spectacular catch in center, saving three runs.

HUNTINGTON BEACH GIRLS’ SOFTBALL

8-and-under division

Xtreme Attitude Returns 8, Blue Thunder 4: Kelli Kufta went three for three with three doubles and a RBI. Kufta pitched three innings and only gave up one run, with three strikeouts.

Greta Wessel went two for three with a home run, Katelyn Drake went two for three with a double and pitched two solid innings.

For Blue Thunder, Heather Wagoner had five strikeouts on the mound and added an RBI single.
