Possible transient arrested on suspicion of assault
A Costa Mesa man police believe to be a transient was arrested Thursday after a woman said she saw him pull a knife on another man.
Ron Gardner, 65, was arrested outside of Harbor Radiator, 2129 Harbor Blvd. in Costa Mesa just before 10 a.m. Thursday when he threatened a man there with a knife he kept in his pocket, said Sgt. Bryan Glass.
Police said people were aware Gardner slept in an area near the business and Thursday morning he had gone onto the Harbor Radiator property. When a man there asked Gardner to leave, he pulled out a knife as if threatening him, Glass said. A woman there witnessed the incident and called police, Glass said.
Gardner was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail. His arraignment is scheduled for Monday.
