Newport, El Toro rematch highlights today’s matches

The Newport Harbor High boys’ soccer team will try to upset the top seed on the road today in the CIF Southern Section Division I quarterfinals.

The Sailors (13-6-4) play at El Toro (20-1-5) at 3 p.m., the third time the teams have met. They’ve split, with Newport Harbor winning, 3-2, Dec. 15, and the Chargers scoring a 3-1 win Jan. 3. El Toro needed penalty kicks to win at Alta Loma in the second round Wednesday after a 1-1 tie. The Chargers then won, 3-0, on penalty kicks.

In Division IV, Corona del Mar (8-7-4) plays host to Rio Mesa of Oxnard at 3 p.m. The Sea Kings won two playoff road games to advance to the quarters finals.

Estancia (15-1-7) plays at North Torrance. Estancia won twice at home before today.

In Division VII, Sage Hill (12-2-6) plays host to Rosamond at 5 p.m. Sage Hill has outscored teams, 17-1, in the playoffs.
