UCI swimmers Tom and Grosvenor gain laurels

IRVINE — Senior Randall Tom and junior Melanie Grosvenor were each named Big West Conference Athlete of the Week in swimming and diving Wednesday.

Tom won both the 200-yard butterfly (1:49.69) and 100 fly (48.24) events. He also swam the 200 medley relay leadoff leg (23.07) and the 200 freestyle relay anchor leg (19.91) on winning teams.

This is Tom’s second Big West honor this season and his seventh career honor.

Grosvenor won both the three-meter diving (287.15), one-meter diving (272.35) competitions with NCAA Zone ‘E’ Diving Regional qualifying marks. Her marks were the third best in school history (one-meter) and fourth best (three-meter).

This is the first conference honor for Grosvenor.
