Even while some venues are offering discounted New Year’s Eve celebrations, no one is holding back in terms of sizzle and excitement. Below is a roundup of local festivities to bring in 2009.

Peace, Love

Huntington Beach Beer Company will celebrate the New Year with local band, Human Lab and DJ Dirty. Party also includes champagne toast, balloon drop and dancing.

Metal in the New Year

Marlin Bar & Grill will feature AC/DC Tribute Band Highway to Hell, and The Abyss Metal Night DJ’s, along with Digital Vampire and Chick’n Phil.

It all kicks off at 9 p.m., 16651 Gothard St., No. F, Huntington Beach. Call (714) 842-5587 for information. No cover charge.

Hurricanes Bar & Grill will entertain with DJ Matt and will pass out party favors and a champagne toast.

The storm rolls in at 9 p.m., 200 Main St., Huntington Beach. Cost is $10 at the door. Call (714) 374-0500 for information.

There will also be a New Years Day “Bowl Games and Breakfast” at 9 a.m.

100 Bucks for the Most Dressed Up

Gallaghers Pub & Grill will rock the New Year with Rock Band, Qwiksand, and will host a “Best Dressed” contest that will award $100 to the snazziest threads. The event also includes a champagne toast at midnight.

The band goes on at 8 p.m., 300 Pacific Coast Hwy., No. 113, Huntington Beach. Cover is $5. Call (714) 536-2422 for information.

Celebrate in Style

The newly remodeled Sutra Lounge will host an exclusive and extravagant celebration with an elegant four-course dinner followed by DJ performances by Eric D-Lux, Rizzo and Langdon and their own resident DJs. The event also offers VIP tables in the main room, patio and private rooms.

Dinner is at 7 p.m., 1870 Harbor Blvd. in Triangle Square, Costa Mesa. Tickets are $50 until today, $75 from Friday to Tuesday. Walk-ins are $100. Call (949) 722-7103 to make a dinner reservation, (949) 235-7880 for VIP reservations.

Mean Venue at a Friendly Cost

 Detroit Bar will host its eighth annual New Year’s Eve banger in conjunction with its Wednesday promotion, Busywork. The event will include DJs in each room, including Dan Sena, GMO and Clifford Liddel, and a mix of indie-electro, hip-hop and soulful house music.

There will also be slider hors d’oeuvres, party favors, a photo booth and a champagne toast at midnight.

Dan Bradley of Detroit Bar said the entrance fee will be less this year due to the economy.

“We have priced it with the recession in mind,” he said. “We expect a big turnout this year at this generation is eager to celebrate the dawning of a new era for this country.”

 The Shark Club will ring in the new year with a Times Square-style countdown, midnight balloon drop, Kryogenefix Blasts and live shark feeding.

The event will also include complimentary hors d’oeuvres, party favors and a champagne toast and offers VIP bottle-service and seating.

Put on the Ritz

The Balboa Bay Club invites the public to toast the New Year at one if their two elegant events.

The First Cabin Restaurant will host a five-course dinner and celebration from 5 to 10:00 p.m. A Black Tie Gala event will be in the Grand Ballroom from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., and will include a reception, elegant dinner with paired wines, dancing to Rembrandt, and a midnight toast.
