IRVINE — Senior Innocente Tellez scored on an assist by senior Chaco Munoz in the final minute to propel the Sailors in the title game of the Irvine Challenge Monday at Irvine High.

Ramiro Tomas and Munoz scored to erase one-goal deficits earlier for the Tars (5-1-1).

Jose Hernandez made eight saves for the winners.

DOWNEY — Senior Tierney Danner had 15 points and 16 rebounds and junior teammate Hannah Jeffrey had a career-hgih 20 rebounds to pace the winners in pool play at the Calvary Chapel Downey Tournament Monday.

Sage (3-1) received seven rebounds, five blocks and four points from senior Stephanie Garrison.

COSTA MESA — Estancia sophomore Kylie Carpenter matched her career high with five goals in the nonleague home game Monday.

Senior two-meter guard Michelle Parsons sparkled on defense and scored a goal in the first half, then replaced Emily Kaplan (four saves) in goal to make two saves against the Vaqueros.

Gracie Brestle and Tyler Andrews also scored for the Eagles (3-4).

HUNTINGTON BEACH — The Sailors came within five points of a perfect score in winning all seven heats at Brookhurst Street Wednesday.

The Sailors (7-1) had seven competitors finish first, six earn second and four finish third.

Newport Harbor, won the shortboard competition, 56-28, winning all four heats. The Sailors swept the first heat with Chad Morabito placing first, Casey Bushong second and Tommy Shaw third.

In the second shortboard heat, Andrew Wilson scored a 4.3 average wave score to secure victory and Zach Porteous placed third. The third shortboard heat saw Sailors Charlie Hawthorne and Cort Adler finish first and second, respectively.

Daniel Netzer’s 4.4 score was good enough for first in the final heat. Jordan Desguin from Newport finished second.

Newport’s Taylor Patton won the longboard competition, in which the Sailors won, 15-6. Placing second and third, respectively, were Aaron Cervantes and Michael Maddox.

The Sailors won the team bodyboard heat, 14-7, as Joe Suzuki’s 6.4 meet-high score placed first and teammate Steven Jensen was second.

The girls’ team won with a perfect 15-6 score behind Elizabeth Eddy’s winning score of 5.17. Shelby Detmers and Ali Hayes and Cambria Brandenburger were second, third and fourth, respectively.
