Tournament of Champions returns for 37th season

The 37th annual Tournament of Champions at Ocean View High begins Monday with a full slate of games.

Tournament takes place daily through Dec. 13. Thirty-two games will be played at the Ocean View gym and 18 more at Lakewood High.

This year’s tournament field has 23 teams, including nationally ranked and defending tournament champion Westchester (Los Angeles).

The field also includes nationally ranked teams Etiwanda and St. Mary’s of Arizona and top California teams in Ocean View, Long Beach Poly, Clovis West, Garces, Long Beach Jordan, Rancho Verde, Serra and West Valley.

Some of the featured players in the tournament include Michael Snaer (Rancho Verde), Demetrius Walker (St. Mary’s), Joe Burton (West Valley), Anthony Brown (Ocean View), Dwayne Polee (Westchester) and Kevin Johnson (Serra).
