Sailors, Sea Kings keep it going in Masters tourney

The boys’ water polo season continues for Newport Harbor High and Corona del Mar in the CIF Southern Section Masters Tournament that begins today.

The 16-team tournament ends with the championship game at Newport Harbor Saturday at 7 p.m.

Newport Harbor (21-8), the 2007 CIF Southern Section Division I champion that reached this year’s quarterfinals, opens the tournament against Riverside Poly at Mater Dei at 10:15 a.m. The Sailors are the No. 6 seed.

Corona del Mar (18-10), which won its 10th straight Pacific Coast League title and then reached the quarterfinals, will play against Montebello in the first round at Mater Dei at 11:30 a.m. The Sea Kings are seeded seventh.

Foothill is the top seed, while El Toro is seeded second.

If the Sailors and Sea Kings win their two games today, they will meet in a semifinal Saturday at 2 p.m at Newport Harbor.
