COSTA MESA — The No. 2-ranked Lions outscored the No. 7-ranked visitors from Tennessee, 19-11, in the final 6:24 to pull away in the nonconference game Friday.
Senior Lauren Gregory and juniors Rachel Copeland and Diana Neves had 15 points apiece for the Lions (5-0), who received 14 points from junior Bridgette Reyes. Sophomore Sarah Boyd contributed seven assists.
Vanguard forced 30 turnovers to help overcome a sub-par shooting performance (38.2% from the field and just 24% from three-point range). VU was outrebounded, 38-28.
The Lions play host to No. 1-ranked Union of Tennessee, tonight at 7:30.

MOSCOW, Idaho — The Vandals handed the Anteaters their most lopsided loss in 12 years in the nonconference game Friday at the Cowan Spectrum.
Idaho (3-3) shot 62.9% from the field for the game (74.2% in the second half), while UCI (0-4) shot 26.3% from the field (15 of 57) and was outrebounded, 50-26.
Senior Brett Lauer led the visitors with 12 points. He was three for three from three-point range.

Martin Whitmore led four Pirates in double figures with 19 points. Cory Ford added 17 and matched Whitmore’s four steals.
OCC (1-4) forced 30 turnovers, but the Knights (6-2) shot 55.6% from the field and outrebounded the Bucs, 48-30.
