Two Costa Mesa teenagers face possible robbery charges after police say one of them stabbed another boy during a drug deal gone bad.

Just before 6 p.m. Thursday, police say three Newport Beach boys — a 15-year-old from Estancia High School and 14- and 15-year-old boys from Newport Harbor High School — were meeting with the two 14-year-old boys from Costa Mesa to sell them marijuana, Newport Beach Sgt. Evan Sailor said.

During the deal, one of the boys from Costa Mesa pulled out a knife and sliced one of the Newport Beach dealers in the arm and took all the boys’ phones, Sailor said.

The stabbing victim was treated at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian and released.

Soon after the attack, police found the Costa Mesa boys and recovered the knife, Sailor said. No drugs were found, but police said the three victims admitted to dealing marijuana.

Police said all the boys had been hanging out with each other previous to the drug deal. The two suspects go to Costa Mesa High School, Sailor said. The names of everyone involved were not released due to their age, and the boys are being prosecuted as juveniles, Sailor said.
