Newport Mavericks win 3rd Straight Area Championship

The Newport Mavericks, AYSO Region 97’s Boys U12 Plus team, secured its third straight Area Championship this past Saturday with a crushing 7-1 win over Mission Viejo. The win completed an undefeated season for the boys who tallied 53 goals, while giving up just three, over a ten game season. Plus teams from all across Orange County, including Huntington Beach, Rancho Santa Margarita, Corona del Mar, Long Beach, and Aliso Viejo suffered losses at the hands of the Mavericks.

“It has been a terrific run for this group of kids who have mostly played together since they were eight. To see kids from Mariners Elementary, Kaiser, Carden Hall, St. Joaquim, and Mariners Christian bond together is a lot of fun to watch” said head coach Jeff Braun. “One thing is for sure, it will be an exciting season to watch this group of kids in the Daily Pilot Cup.”
