SAN JOSE — Junior attacker Max Bergeson recorded four goals, three steals and two assists, helping Corona del Mar, ranked No. 8 in the CIF Southern Section Division I poll, upset No. 3-ranked Foothill, 9-8, Friday, to advance to today’s semifinals against Newport Harbor at Bellarmine College Preparatory.

The Sea Kings (15-7), who went 2-0 on the first day of competition, play at 1:25 p.m. against their Back Bay rivals for a chance to move on to the finals.

Against Foothill, Chase Watson had two goals and one steal. Connor Taylor added six steals.

CdM opened with a 13-5 win over Bellarmine. Lucas Reynolds finished with five goals and two steals.

Brian Schiefer and Carter Taylor each had two goals each.

SAN JOSE — Zach Lucas had five steals, four assists and two goals in Newport Harbor’s 10-5 win over JSerra that put the Sailors into today’s semifinals against Corona del Mar at Belarmine College Preparatory.

David Linden led with three goals and goalie Nick Holbrook recorded 13 saves.

Blake Kelly finished with four goals, four steals and two assists for the Sailors in the opening match. Lucas had five steals, three assists and two goals for the Sailors (16-6), ranked No. 6 in the CIF Southern Section Division I poll.

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA — Dustin Serrano and Garrett Frazier scored two goals each in Costa Mesa’s, 7-5 loss to Santa Margarita in its third game of pool play Friday.

Jackson O’Connor recorded seven saves and Travis Wright added a goal for the Mustangs (17-8), who will play two more games in the tournament today.

Los Amigos 14, Estancia 8

COSTA MESA — Senior driver Eric Mickelson finished with three goals in the Eagles’ nonleague match Friday.

Frank Gonzalez scored once for Estancia (4-14).

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Lindsey Kish finished with 15 digs, seven kills and four ace serves in the Lightning’s 25-15, 17-25, 25-16, 25-17 Academy League win Friday.

Tess Wohrle had seven kills and two aces and Zoe Kreitenberg added five kills and two blocks for Sage Hill (14-10, 8-0 in league), ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division IV-AA.
