Conference to cover plans for curbing recidivism
Experts from academia and corrections departments will educate law enforcement officials Monday on developing solutions to recidivist violent criminals, UCI officials said.
UCI’s school of social ecology will host a daylong conference “Applying Social Science to Reduce Violent Offending” Monday, presenting expert opinions on criminal justice policies and the penal system.
Collectively, the group hopes to encourage change in criminal justice policies, make communities safer and replace ineffectual systems with ones that reduce the likelihood of a violent offender committing another crime after being released, officials said.
The conference is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday at the university’s Arnold and Mabel Beckman Center of the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering, 100 Academy Way, on campus.
