This open house will be a bit more action-packed the average one.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Newport Beach police and firefighters are hosting a joint open house at their Fashion Island station at 890 and 868 Santa Barbara Drive.

The police and fire stations will be open for tours in the afternoon, with demonstrations by police, firemen and lifeguards starting at noon. The demonstrations will include a firefighter challenge, and officials will also display the Jaws of Life, K-9 and SWAT teams and the police helicopter.

There’s something for people of all ages, officials said, so bring your cameras and be ready to take pictures with your local heroes.

Free parking will be north of the stations in the civic plaza. Hot dogs and drinks will be available with proceeds going to local charities.
