Huntington Beach surfer takes fourth place

Micah Byrne of Huntington Beach made his way into the finals of the Oakley Newport Beach Pro on Sunday and went on to claim a fourth-place finish.

The event was won by Nathan Yeomans, 27, of San Clemente. Dillon Perillo, 18, of Malibu, placed second and Travis Mellem, 23, of San Clemente, was third.

Byrne, 26, finished the finals heat with 10.57 points.

The Assn. of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) two-star contest was the second of three events that make up the 2008 Macy’s California Trifecta Surf Series, which is an ASP North America Specialty Series.

Byrne will attempt to win the next Macy’s California Trifecta Surf Series event Oct. 21-26 when he competes at the four-star O’Neill Cold Water Classic at Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz.
