Youth football teams rolling
The Huntington Beach Pee Wee Division Oilers picked up their first victory of the season by posting a rare win over Norwalk, 14-12, in Jr. All-American Football action Saturday.
After spotting the Saints a 6-0 lead, Oilers running back Maurice Barber scored on a 25-yard run.
Quarterback Nolan Winks and Trevor Diehl connected on a touchdown pass later in the game, which proved to be the decisive score. Norwalk scored a late touchdown but had a two-point conversion kick blocked by a host of Oilers that would have tied the game.

Midget Division
Huntington 26, Cypress 0: The Green Chargers continued their winning ways and posted their second straight shutout in the process.
Huntington’s rushing game featured two touchdown runs by Donald Rice and another by Brenden Henderson.
The Green Chargers will meet their Gold Chargers division counterpart in Midget Division action at 2 p.m. Saturday at Edison High.
Jr. Midget Division
Green Chargers 14, Santa Ana 6: Both teams came into the game undefeated and un-scored upon, but it was the Green Chargers who kept their record perfect.
A first half defensive struggle saw Roman Smith, Andrew Bogard and Steven Tovatt register several sacks and Treavon Coley intercepted a pass. Jake Arledge scored the Green Chargers’ first touchdown on a 26-yard run and quarter Brodie Barton later connected with Coley for the other score.
Peter Russo came up with an interception on the Monarchs’ final possession to ice the win
Hacienda/La Puente 32, Gold Chargers 0: A banged up group of Gold Chargers that included Keyon Nafison, Grant Horton, Clayton Ferguson and Nathan Laszlo, fought to the end in a shutout loss to the host Olympians in the City of Industry.
Jr. Pee Wee Division
Saddleback Valley 12, Green Chargers 7: Saddleback Valley held off a late comeback attempt by the Green Chargers to win a home game at El Toro High.
Saddleback scored on its first two possessions of the second half to take a 12-0 lead. Huntington scored its lone touchdown on a 13-play, 60-yard drive that began late in the third quarter. It was highlighted by a 12-yard run by Abel Diaz and capped by a one-yard touchdown run by Keith McCord, who followed the blocking of Bryan Kelley into the end zone early in the fourth quarter. McCord hit Ben Poploskie with the conversion pass to make it 12-7.
Danny Cassaro stopped a Saddleback drive late in the fourth quarter with a fumble recovery near the Huntington 10-yard line, but one final Green Chargers’ drive ended near midfield when the clock ran out.
The Green Chargers host the Tustin Black Cobras at 8 a.m. Saturday at Edison.
Gold Chargers 26, Lakewood 0: Huntington’s defense got its first shutout of the season by holding Lakewood to 76 yards on offense.
Mighty Mite Division
Huntington 28, Cypress 7: A 28-point second half carried the Chargers past Cypress.
Two plays into the second half, Cameron Gonzales took a handoff and raced 52 yards for Huntington’s first touchdown. That was followed by a 65-yard punt return for a score by Chase Ault. Cameron Gonzales and Kyle Drinnon also scored touchdowns.
Huntington puts its undefeated record on the line Saturday when it travels to Norwalk to face the Titans in a 10 a.m. start.
Jr. Mighty Mite Division
Cypress 20, Huntington 14: Huntington took an early lead but couldn’t hold on at Edison as Cypress handed the Chargers their first loss of the season.
