Car wash to benefit Costa Mesa’s adopted Marines regiment
Costa Mesa is hosting a car wash to raise money for the Southern California-based Marines regiment it officially adopted last month.
The city committed to helping the 1st Battalion 5th Regiment last month after representatives of the outfit approached the City Council. The council voted unanimously to offer the city’s support.
A group of Marines from the regiment will be washing cars from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 27 in the parking lot of Costa Mesa City Hall.
Proceeds from the event will go to the battalion, where they will be used to pay for support services for the families of deployed Marines and also to put on receptions.
The regiment is raising funds through the Costa Mesa Community Foundation to take advantage of the foundation’s nonprofit status.
