New websites provide expanded info on schools
Newport-Mesa Unified School District recently launched a series of new websites for each of its schools that district officials say will better allow parents and students to access information about each campus.
The websites are redesigned, giving each school’s home page a unique feel geared toward that school’s colors and name. The website’s completion was part of the first phase of a complete overhaul of the district’s websites using School Loop, a company that has assisted the district in its overhaul.
Bell schedules are listed, campus maps are provided, after school programs are featured and there are links to community programs.
Also included is a new section that provides event descriptions and dates, as well as news concerning the school. An interactive calendar is also available.
With the new system in place, principals and school staff can now make instant changes to their school’s website to keep it fresh. More than 100 site staff members have been trained on how to use the new system, district officials said.
Many school websites also have links to parent-teacher groups.
Student grades are reachable via the website for some schools, such as Newport Harbor High School, with password verification.
The next phase of the project will update district and department websites.
