Former Sea Kings’ coach joins Calvary Chapel staff
Former Corona del Mar High football coach Dick Freeman will work as the defensive coordinator and defensive line coach at Calvary Chapel this season, he said Tuesday.
Freeman, fired after 12-plus seasons at the helm of the Sea Kings after the 2007 campaign, is reunited with Calvary Coach Lyle Lansdell. Lansdell was Freeman’s offensive coordinator at CdM from the mid-1990s to 2001.
Freeman continues to teach science at CdM.
Calvary Chapel, a member of the Orange Coast League, will open the season against Magnolia, coached by former Estancia and Costa Mesa head man Dave Perkins, on Sept. 4 at Orange Coast College. Calvary is scheduled to play Costa Mesa Nov. 1 at Estancia High and will battle Estancia in the regular-season finale Nov. 13 at OCC.
