Another Linens ‘n Things to close
Home goods retailer Linens ‘n Things, which went into bankruptcy protection in May, plans to shutter its Metro Pointe store in Costa Mesa as part of a new round of closures.
The store is one of 59 in the country slated to shut down; one other Orange County shop, in Mission Viejo, was also on the list. The company originally planned to shut down 87 stores in its second wave of closures.
Three other Orange County locations began liquidation sales in May. The Fullerton, Tustin and Rancho Santa Margarita stores were some of the worst underperformers in the company, and were among 120 stores on the original chopping block.
The retailer had nearly 600 stores in 47 states in 2007; one-third have been slated for closure since bankruptcy proceedings began.
Linens ‘n Things said in news releases that the sales will last a few months; the Rancho Santa Margarita store has already begun offering items at as much as 70% off.
“While a very difficult decision, the stores that are closing are necessary given the current retail and economic climate,” Michael F. Gries, chief restructuring officer and interim chief executive, said in a statement.
