COMMUNITY & CLUBS:
The Newport Harbor Exchange Club installed its officers and board members June 30 at the “Blue Coral” restaurant in Newport Beach.
More than 70 club members and their wives attended this gala formal event. Nick Berger was installed as the new president, and Jerry Nininger will be the president-elect.
The incoming vice president will be Gary Eckles. The installation was carried out by Past District President Dick Freeman, and the emcee for the evening was John Fornes.
Prior to a wonderful dinner, the X-Men, a six-piece band made up entirely of club members, held forth on the patio. The band played for more than an hour to the delight of the guests. Bob Jessen retired after a fascinating year of club leadership. He presented Berger with the coveted Exchangite of the Year award.
Special guest of the evening was the incoming District President Zita Roehrig.
Jerry Rekers, a 12-year veteran of Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow, assumed the presidency of the 85-member Newport Irvine Rotary Club following the demotion of Diane Pearce on June 26 at the American Legion Club.
