NEWPORT BEACH — Travis Russell shot even-par 36 to help the Sailors clinch the Sunset League championship Tuesday at Big Canyon Country Club.
Chase Behr (38), Steve Stoneman (41), Mychael Clark (41) and Ericson Klein (42) also contributed to the first league title for Harbor Coach Scott Tarnow, who is in his eighth year.
The Sailors finished the regular season 14-6, 8-2 in league.

COSTA MESA — Estancia High junior Ryan Knapp shot a two-day total of four-over-par 146 to finish second, one stroke behind the champion, Laguna Beach’s Brett McGaughey, after shooting a five-over 77 at Costa Mesa Country Club’s Los Lagos Course Tuesday.
Knapp, who shot one-under 69, matching McGaughey on the Mesa Linda Course Monday, advances to the CIF Southern Section individuals May 12 at SeaCliff Country Club.
Estancia’s Andrew Ayala is an alternate, missing the three-man cut by one stroke, as his 150 (73-77) was behind Laguna’s Duane Hewlett.
Storm Hagen finished ninth for the Eagles with a 169 (75-94).

Championships
CHINO — Corona del Mar’s Camden Nicholson shot one-over-par 73 for the low score of the day Monday and tied for third overall with a score of 151 Tuesday at El Prado Golf Course.
As one of the top five in league, Nicholson advanced to the CIF Southern Section Southern Division Individual tournament May 12 at SeaCliff Country Club in Huntington Beach.
Playing on the Chino Creek course, Taylor Keddington and Josh Starnes tied for eighth with 158. Tanner Trauthen shot 160 for 11th place.

IRVINE — Dylan Davis had 11 kills and Jeff Carlson added 10 for the Sea Kings in their 25-19, 25-16, 17-25, 25-19 Pacific Coast League win Tuesday.
Dillon Flinn had six kills and Connor Bannan 27 assists for CdM (23-6, 8-0 in league), which will face Newport Harbor Friday at 8 p.m. at UC Irvine’s Bren Events Center.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — The Lightning clinched the outright Academy League title with the 25-10, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22 win Tuesday at Brethren Christian.
Sophomore outside hitter Joey Booth had 22 kills for Sage Hill, ranked No. 3 in the CIF Southern Section Division V coaches’ poll. Junior outside hitter Bayle Smith had 18 kills and four aces for the Lightning (18-10, 9-0 in league). Sophomore libero Mattias Russo-Larsson added 15 digs and an ace.
Sage Hill closes out league play on senior night Thursday at 5 p.m., at home against rival St. Margaret’s.

CORONA DEL MAR — Danny Moskovits hit a home run in the first inning for the Sea Kings in their Pacific Coast League game Tuesday.
Kevin Holland and Michael Bloom had a single each for CdM (8-13, 3-7 in league).

NEWPORT COAST — Lightning freshman Jack Heffron improved to 3-2, striking out 10 in four innings in the Academy League game Tuesday at Sage Hill.
With three league games remaining, Sage Hill can clinch its first baseball league title with just one win or an Oxford Academy loss.
Sean Vogel pitched three shutout innings for his second save for Sage Hill (13-4, 11-1 in league), ranked No. 9 in the CIF Southern Section Division VI coaches’ poll. Senior Travis Duncan was one for two with an RBI, while sophomore Alex Jimenez added a two-out, two-RBI single in the second.
The Lightning will try to clinch the title Friday at 3 p.m. at Capo Valley Christian.

CORONA DEL MAR — CdM junior Sarah Furgatch qualified first for Friday’s finals in the 200-yard individual medley, as well as the 100 breaststroke, Tuesday at Corona del Mar High.
Furgatch had a time of 2 minutes, 10.70 seconds in the IM, and 1:06.90 in the breast.
Sea Kings junior Kelsey Larson qualified first in the 500 freestyle (5:10.45) for CdM.
The league finals are Friday at 1 p.m., also at CdM.

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Newport Harbor High sophomore Kate Klippert qualified second for Friday’s finals in the 100-yard freestyle on Tuesday at Golden West College.
Klippert swam a time of 54.02 seconds.
Sailors senior Erin Reid qualified third in the 500 free, in 5:16.20, while sophomore Katie Jackson also qualified third in the 100 butterfly (1:00.04).
The finals are Friday at 3 p.m., also at Golden West College.

LAGUNA BEACH — Estancia High senior Bradley Fisher and junior Ely Zaidler both advanced to the singles semifinals Tuesday at Laguna Beach High.
Both players had a bye in the first round. Fisher, the defending league champion, then topped Rex Miller of Laguna Beach, 6-3, 7-5, while Zaidler defeated the Breakers’ Alex Gromet, 6-0, 6-0. Fisher will face Alex Grosek of Calvary Chapel today at 1 p.m. in the semifinals, while Zaidler plays Jake Michaels of Laguna Beach.
In doubles, Eagles seniors Nick Oliver and Chris Koreerat also advanced to the semifinals. They topped Paul Solomon and Bryant Schulman of Laguna Beach in the quarterfinals, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, and 10-5 in a super-tiebreaker. Oliver and Koreerat will face Noah Michelon and Ben Biscarrat, also of Laguna Beach, in the semifinals today.
Estancia junior Rony Argueta and sophomore Kevin Thomas fell in the quarterfinals to Sean Ochwat and Mickey Ruble of Laguna Beach, 6-4, 2-6, 3-10. Aashish Varma and Sean Ulrich fell in the first round to Aaron Nguyen and Jim Cooper of Calvary Chapel, 9-7, in an eight-game pro-set.
The top two finishers in both singles and doubles advance to the CIF Individuals tournament, which has its preliminary round May 16.

NEWPORT BEACH — Josh Tuz swept at No. 2 singles for the Sailors in their Sunset League match Monday.
Erik Heimstaedt and John Hutchinson each won twice in singles for Newport Harbor, which ended the regular season, 8-7, 6-4 in league. The Sailors finished fourth in league, but might make it into the playoffs as a wild-card team. CIF Southern Section playoff pairings will be announced Monday.
Tuz and Daron Arnold are the No. 2-seeded doubles team for Harbor in the Sunset League finals that start today. McKenna Duley and Taylor Friend are seeded fourth in doubles, while Hutchinson is the No. 3 seed in singles.
