UCI’s Linton honored after huge week on road
UC Irvine junior Ollie Linton was named Easton Big West Conference Player of the Week after leading the Anteaters baseball team to a 4-1 record last week.
Linton was 11 for 23 (.478) on the week with seven runs batted in, eight runs scored and five stolen bases.
Already the all-time leader in stolen bases at UC Irvine, Linton’s five steals in five attempts against Kansas State and New Mexico gave him 30 for the season, topping the previous school single-season record set by Stacy Parker in 1989.
A preseason All-American, the center fielder also belted his third homer of the season Sunday to help the ’Eaters sweep their three-game set at New Mexico.
He went 10 for 15 against the Lobos (.667) to lift his season average to .352.
