Interfaith Council plans prayer breakfast

The Laguna Beach Interfaith Council will host its first Prayer Breakfast from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. May 1 at the South Coast Medical Center auditorium. Ministers and lay persons will offer prayers from their various faiths and there will be special music.

Brian Andre, church education system director at Chapman University, will show slides and share his interfaith work with two humanitarian organizations in leprosy colonies in India and Mozambique, Africa. All are invited to attend. Suggested donation is $10 at the door. Reservations are required. Harpist to perform

Harpist/composer Peter Sterling will perform at 7 p.m. April 27 in the Neighborhood Congregational Church sanctuary. Sterling blends ethereal sounds and exotic rhythms, combined with poetry, for a soul-stirring and consciousness-altering experience. The church is located at 340 St. Ann’s Drive. National Day of Prayer

Laguna Beach’s City Hall flagpole will be the site of a National Day of Prayer event at noon May 1. Pastor Jay Grant will lead the prayer. There will be balloons and flags for all who attend.

Chamber music recital on tap at St. Mary’s

The chamber music ensemble Amici d’Amelia is returning to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church for a recital at 4 p.m. April 27. The musicians will present an afternoon of chamber music, featuring woodwinds, brass, and piano. Pieces to be performed include the Mozart “Gran Partita” Serenade, the Serenade for Winds by Richard Strauss, and the piano quintet by Jean Francaix.

This concert will benefit the Cistone Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides musical instruments for needy students in the Saddleback Valley. A voluntary donation of $10 ($5 students and seniors) is suggested.

A reception will follow the performance. St. Mary’s is located at 428 Park Ave.
