Witnesses:
A three-car crash left one car in flames at Harbor Boulevard and South Coast Drive Monday evening, officials said.
No one was seriously hurt after the 5 p.m. accident that involved a blue Audi, a tan Toyota Forerunner and a white Honda CRV, Costa Mesa Fire Capt. Lenny Goodsir said.
Police and fire officials were unclear how the accident happened or what sparked the blaze in the Audi, but Goodsir speculated the fire began from an affected gas line. Firefighters had the blaze under control in just a few minutes, Goodsir said.
Witnesses said the Audi ran the red light going south on Harbor Boulevard, hitting the Forerunner that was crossing the intersection from South Coast Drive.
“It just kind of happened,” said Natalie Morano, the Honda CRV driver. “I looked over and the guy’s car was on fire.”
