Mansoor seeking further rules against sex offenders
Costa Mesa City Councilman Allan Mansoor is looking for ways to further regulate where sex offenders may live in the city, citing a proposed policy in Long Beach he said might work similarly.
City staff is studying the proposal and how it could be applied in Costa Mesa, he said.
“It’s my understanding that the city of Long Beach is looking into an ordinance to further regulate where sex offenders may or may not live,” he said. “I simply wanted to find out if it was doable, and if it is, can we do it?”
Long Beach reportedly has taken steps to prevent sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of day-care centers. Under current state law, sex offenders may not live within 2,000 feet of parks or primary/secondary schools.
