Youth basketball registration is today

Basketball League registration for Girls in grades K-8 will be held through today at the Boys & Girls Club Main Branch in Laguna Beach.

Weekly one-hour practices begin March 31 and league games will be played April 15 through June 9. Volunteer opportunities are available for parents interested in coaching teams.

All participants must be members of the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach. Membership fee is $150 per year. Scholarships are available for qualifying families. League fee is $90 per player and includes a new team uniform.

Late fee applies after today’s registration session.

Beach volleyball classes to begin Saturday

The next series of beach volleyball classes will be offered at Main Beach beginning Saturday.

Classes will be offered for beginning through advanced players, ages 16-and-older.

Both the 9 a.m. beginning/ intermediate and 10:30 a.m. advanced sessions offer a workout emphasizing core skills, strength, flexibility and ball control in a fun and social setting.

Novice players will learn the game in a relaxed environment and advanced players will get the opportunity to get in shape and hone their skills for tournament and challenge court play.

Future classes will be offered in the spring and summer, as well.

Surf Jam, beach cleanup event is Sunday

Soul Surfing School will hold its first Oak St. Surf Jam and Beach Clean up at 7 a.m. Sunday.

As part of the new program, in association with Adopt A Beach and in support of the California Coastal Commission, the contest will provide a positive, fun and friendly event for youth and families of Laguna Beach.

The goal of the youth program to create greater local community awareness and ownership for youth in regards to marine preservation and enjoyment of the Laguna coastline.

Prizes, gift certificates and product items will be given away at the event.
