BELMONT — Lions senior Jen Olvera went a combined three for six with three doubles, helping No. 10 Vanguard sweep the nonconference doubleheader Thursday at Notre Dame High.
Olvera also earned the win in Game 1 for Vanguard (16-4), improving to 8-0. She allowed one earned run in seven innings and striking out 10.
Sophomore April Glenn was two for four with two RBIs to pace the Lions in the opener.
In Game 2, the Lions were tied, 4-4, in the seventh before freshman Angela St. Croix had an RBI double to score sophomore Jennifer Bergh. Freshman Amanda Young followed with an RBI single to score St. Croix.
St. Croix doubled twice in the second game.

The Gauchos (11-7) claimed the lead and never lost it, even after the Pirates (13-4-1) constructed a six-run rally in the fifth.

COSTA MESA — Riverside won all five matches played to hand Orange Coast its first Orange Empire Conference loss Thursday at OCC.
The Pirates (5-3, 2-1 in conference) got their two victories as sophomores Gio Villicana and Landon Draper won by default in doubles, as did freshman Kevin Tran in singles.
Riverside improved to 6-1, 2-0.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

IRVINE — UC Irvine senior Stephanie Duda passed the 1,000 point career mark in her last home game, but Long Beach State rallied to take the Big West Conference game Thursday at UCI.
Duda had 15 points, giving her 1,003 career points. She is the 14th Anteaters women player to pass the mark. Duda also had a game-high 14 rebounds, which helped her earn her conference-leading 14th double-double this season.
UC Irvine (6-22, 2-12 in conference) was ahead, 47-43, with 8 minutes and 17 seconds left in the game, but went nearly six minutes without scoring.
Senior Haley Tull and junior Kirian Ishizaki each had 10 points for the ’Eaters. Senior Christina Zdenek added eight points and a career-high seven rebounds.
