WILMINGTON — Amino Leadership scored twice in the second half, helping it top the Sage Hill School girls’ soccer team, 2-0, in the CIF Southern Section Division VI second round Wednesday at Los Angeles Harbor College.

The Lightning, who won the first Academy League championship in the program’s history, finish their season 13-9-3.

Sophomore Susana Velazquez scored twice for Animo, in the 62nd minute on Marleth Fernandez’s assist and in the 69th minute on Ari Leon’s pass.

“The fast half it was kind of windy,” Animo Coach Luis Vazquez said. “[The Lightning] were going with the wind. They were attacking and attacking. They had a few opportunities but we got lucky they did not score. They are a very good team.”

Vazquez said Sage Hill’s Brynne Quinlan was assessed a red card in the 60th minute.

“Sage Hill had some good defenders,” Vazquez said. “We had the advantage of the wind [in the second half] and a one-player advantage. The last 20 minutes, we were able to capitalize on that.”
