CORONA DEL MAR — The Corona del Mar High girls’ water polo team defeated Santa Monica, 13-3, before topping Long Beach Millikan, 16-3, to advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament Thursday at CdM.

Senior Allison Peotter and juniors Heather Van Hiel and Elise Molnar each scored twice against Santa Monica. Against Millikan, Van Hiel and junior Erin McAdams scored three goals each for CdM (18-5).

The Sea Kings, the top-seeded team in the tournament and the top-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division I, play Villa Park today at 6 p.m. at CdM in a tournament quarterfinal.

IRVINE — Newport Harbor High senior Erin Reid scored nine combined goals as the Sailors eased through the first two rounds of the tournament Thursday at Irvine High.

Newport Harbor defeated Long Beach Poly, 12-3, before beating Whittier, 14-2.

Junior Nicolina McCall and senior Jessica Robinson each scored three combined goals for the Sailors (20-3), ranked No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll.

Newport Harbor will play Coronado in a tournament quarterfinal game today at 6 p.m. at Irvine High.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY — Kayla Henrie scored on an assist for Megan Khademi for the Sailors in the final minute and the teams went scoreless in two 10-minute overtime periods of the Sunset League match Thursday.
