Councilwoman Foley tries to raise scholarship funds

Costa Mesa city councilwoman Katrina Foley is conducting a fundraiser tonight at Newport Rib Company.

Foley is trying to raise money for Twelfth Grade Citizenship Award.

The $500 scholarship will be given to a high school senior who wins her essay contest and who, “demonstrates the qualities of active participation in civic or community activities, good scholarship, and school involvement,” according to Foley’s website.

This year students were asked to pen an essay explaining what motivates young voters and why more of them don’t vote.

Foley was hoping to draw attention to the issue as the 2008 presidential election in November draws closer.

Newport Rib Company will donate 20% of a patron’s bill if he or she mentions Foley’s scholarship fund.

Contributors can make orders and contributions at Newport Rib Company today from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
