Former Mustang Day misses an ‘A’ in Glasgow
Costa Mesa High graduate Sharon Day had a chance to make the Olympic “A†team competing in the high jump this weekend at the Norwich Union International Match, but she missed.
The fifth year Cal Poly San Luis Obispo senior jumped 6 feet, 2.8 inches (1.90 meters) in the high jump in Glasgow, Scotland Saturday. The Olympic “A†team standard for women is 1.95 meters .
Day finished third in the competition behind Ariane Friedrich of Germany (2.00 meters) and Emma Green of Sweden, who jumped 1.93 meters.
Day finished second to three-time Olympian Amy Acuff Jan. 21 at the Run for the Dream Team USA vs. The World event at Fresno State. Day jumped 1.90 meters then too, but set a Cal Poly San Luis Obispo indoor record.
Last summer, Day competed at the Pan-American Games in Brazil, and the North America, Central America, and Caribbean Athletic Association Championships in San Salvador.
Day will head to New York to compete in the 101st Annual Millrose Games Feb. 1. It will be her first time competing in a Cal Poly Mustangs uniform this season
