Mustangs, Eagles collide in girls’ soccer today at 3
Less than two weeks ago, the first meeting of the girls’ soccer season between Orange Coast League rivals Costa Mesa High and Estancia produced a 1-1 tie.
The split the result by halves, with Costa Mesa ( 3-2-4, 0-0-3 in league) scoring first, and Estancia (5-4-3, 1-0-2) answering after the break on Jan 10.
Today, the two teams meet again at 3 p.m. at Estancia.
The Eagles have been leaning on freshman Jackie Freiberger, who scored in the last Eagles-Mustangs meeting off a cross from senior Jennifer Thomas.
Junior Kyra Graham, one of the Mustangs’ fastest players, has been a major factor in Costa Mesa’s offensive efforts. She figures to play a major role in today’s game.
Graham’s assist to junior Ayla Medina gave Costa Mesa its 1-0 first-half lead in the last game.
The even lineups should make a for another exciting match.
The last time the two teams met, even the goalkeepers were even. Both Costa Mesa keeper Jessica Rubright and Estancia keepers Allyson Wallace recorded seven saves.
