NEWPORT COAST — Kellee Kim scored three goals to lead the runaway Academy League victory for the Lightning on Saturday at Sage Hill.

Sara Montazami, Kirby Anderson, Jordan Team and Molly Vorwerck, all added a pair of goals for the Lightning (7-7-2, 5-0-1 in league). Megan Kim also scored.

SANTA ANA — Stefan Kaluz and Joe Eberhard scored 15 points each for the Sea Kings in a nonleague game that was part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Classic Saturday at Century High.

Kaluz also had 10 rebounds, while Adam Brakeville contributed four steals for CdM (16-5).

NEWPORT COAST — The visiting Eagles scored on a baseline drive and layup with three seconds left, handing the Lightning a tough Academy League loss Saturday night at Sage Hill.

Jamie McGee, who led all scorers with 15 points, had made a layup off Nick Witte’s assist to give the Lightning (6-14, 2-4 in league) a one-point lead over CVC (4-2 in league) with about 30 seconds left.

SAN CLEMENTE — Newport Harbor High senior Josh George took second place in the 140-pound division to help lead the Sailors to a ninth-place finish in the event that had 28 schools, including Corona del Mar Saturday at San Clemente High.

George lost to Atascadero’s Andrew Hernandez, 11-6, in the final and finished 3-1 at the tournament. He’s now 32-3.

Guillermo Perez (189), Edgar Guadarrama (160) and Eddie Garcia (125) each came away with third-place finishes, while Robert Luna (119) and Corey Scott (145) both were fifth for the Sailors.

The Sea Kings had three third-place finishers — Max Prescott (215), Travis Prickett (171) and Scott Eskew (140) — and Cole Shepard (125) was fifth.

Atascadero won the tournament.
